Smells Like Napalm, Tastes Like Chicken! is the seventh level in Marathon. It is the fourth level of Counterattack, the second chapter of the game. Your objective in this level is to close two airlocks to prevent the Pfhor troops from advancing.
This level consists of two mazes of tunnels. The narrow, twisting corridors are crawling with Pfhor Fighters, S'pht Compilers, and Wasps. There is little room to dodge bullets here, and it's easy to get lost. Each maze holds a pattern buffer, and a 1x shield recharger can be found in the west maze as well.
Walkthrough[]
When you teleport in, you will immediately be attacked by fighters and wasps, so be prepared to clear the room.
There are two buttons you have to press. One at the east end of the level, and one at the west end; both are found at the end of a maze of corridors. The west maze holds a 1x shield recharger, so it's best to go west first. There is also a pattern buffer in the maze. Make your way to the airlock at the very western edge of the maze and hit the airlock button, then go back to the center of the level.
The eastern maze can be dealt with in much the same way. There's another pattern buffer here. Close the east airlock, then return to the center of the level.
Now make your way to the north. Use the buttons to raise the platforms in the middle of the room, making a bridge that allows you to reach the opening in the north wall.
The final puzzle involves two buttons, each raising an elevator. Hit the east button, then the west button, and quickly move to the elevators in the middle to ride them to the top.
There is a secret room on this level that contains ammo, a terminal, and most of all a flamethrower; this is the room marked A2 on the map. In order to reach it, stand in the southwest corner of the corridor marked A1. Then, quickly run back to the level's starting room; an elevator will have been lowered in the southeast corner of the room, leading to the secret area. If you want to keep the flamethrower, quickly pick it up and get back to the elevator before it rises again—if you're not fast enough, you'll get stuck! It may help to grenade jump into the elevator passage, instead of weaving your way up onto the ledge.
Terminals[]
Medical Access Terminal<39.569.18.194>[]
The first terminal is a message from Leela. She tells you that a large group of Pfhor are headed towards you in the aft section of the UESC Marathon. The only way to stop them is to open the airlocks, but she can't do that while internal doors are open, and she can't seal the doors, so it's up to you to close the internal doors. Leela gives you a map to each airlock switch and tells you that you must find another terminal to be teleported out of that area.
Public Access Terminal 49-z<3.67.299.492>[]
The second terminal tells you that security has been breached at your location, and follows with a corrupted document about the Holy Roman Empire. It ends with a Spurious Interrupt denying further access.
Service Access 31-b<39.592.29.95>[]
This terminal is a message from Durandal. He tells you that the Marathon used to be his slave and that he is being chased around by an AI who thinks he's rampant.
Public Access Terminal 65-a<65.92.31.49>[]
The final terminal is another message from Leela, who says that she will begin the decompression of nonessential sections of the ship. She then tells you that the humans you rescued earlier have informed her that the Pfhor have been taking humans back to their ship.
