The Slings & Arrows of Outrageous Fortune is the second level in Marathon 2: Durandal. It is the second level of Lh'owon, the first chapter of the game. The objective is to find the exit terminal, located somewhere inside the maze of water-filled rooms.

This enemy introduces a new enemy: the F'lickta. These hostile bipeds are native to Lh'owon and can often be found in water-filled areas. They will attack anyone nearby, whether human or Pfhor. You'll also find Pfhor Fighters and Drones here.

There are three pattern buffers in the level. One is found just southeast of the starting room, along with a 1x shield recharger. Another pattern buffer can be found up in a niche in the northeast part of the level; reaching it requires jumping across some pillars. The third pattern buffer is found in the exit terminal room in the northwest region of the map. There is another 1x shield recharger in the southwest corner of the level. In the room just to the east of it, the level's sole oxygen replenisher can be found.

Once you have cleared out the enemies in the first room proceed outside and turn right, this leads down a hallway to a terminal with a message from Durandal. He explains the mission objective: finding another computer to leave from.

After you have read the terminal go back west. There's a pattern buffer here, as well as a 1x shield recharger.

The exit terminal is located in the northwest corner of the level. You can make your way directly to the exit, or explore the various rooms to find more ammo. Your weapons won't work underwater, so in water-filled areas you'll have to punch enemies with your first, or lure them to higher ground.

In the southeast and northeast parts of the level you'll find some higher areas out of the water. There are ammo caches here that are only teleported in when you go near them, so run around in these areas a lot to reveal them.

Don't forget to use the pattern buffer in the final room before using the exit terminal. That terminal will teleport you to Charon Doesn't Make Change.

At point A on the map, a column in the north wall can be opened to reveal a secret room with lots of enemies and a Zeus Class Fusion Pistol.

At point B on the map, another column in the west wall can be opened to reveal a switch. Hit it, then run back to the Fusion Pistol room to find a hidden passage. It leads to a room where two Pfhor Fighters continually battle a pair of the tougher F'lickta, but there's an invisible wall that prevents you from getting in on the action.

The first terminal contains a message from Durandal. He explains the Pfhor must have found Tycho, giving them information on Durandal's plan, and they would have been on Lh'owon long before you arrived. Durandal also says that the Pfhor returned and destroyed the colony on Tau Ceti three months after you left.

If you come back to the terminal later, Durandal tells you that he led the Pfhor to Tau Ceti, because he wanted freedom, and says that he is directly responsible for the deaths of all twenty-four thousand colonists. He then insists that he actually saved humanity, because he warned Earth of the impending attack, and that all of Earth's population would have been enslaved if it had been found by the Pfhor first.

The second terminal is another message from Durandal, who tells you that his S'pht are mass-producing copies of the weapons you brought from Tau Ceti: your pistol, the assault rifle, and the Zeus Class Fusion Pistol.
