Void
Void is the codename of a Runner in Marathon. He has a "ghosting" (i.e. cloaking) ability.[1]
Biography[]
Void was operating on Tau Ceti IV by 2893. During one of his runs, operating alongside Locus and Blackbird, he came across a small disc-shaped object which he attached to himself. The disc contained a recording of Oboe Concerto in D Minor. Later in the run, they were attacked by UESC drones. Locus was 'killed,' and Blackbird and Void escaped.[2]
Later, on the run (or a separate run), Blackbird heard Void humming a tune he'd obtained from the disc. At her request, he offered it to Blackbird, who asked Void if he ever thought about what had happened to the people on the colony. Void told her that it was none of her business, and ordered her to return the disc. Blackbird was 'killed' before she could do, courtesy of another squad of Runners. One of them took the disc he'd given Blackbird and attached it to herself like he had, which made Void hesitate as he lined his sights on her. She began humming the same tune, which gave Void pause, but she saw him. He ran after her into a nearby structure and confronted the Runner, but she temporarily incapacitated him through a blast of energy from her palm before running off.[2]
Her flight led her into the open where she was gunned down by UESC drones. He then used his own weapon to destroy them before retrieving the disc from the Runner's shell, along with a photo and memento. He was then gunned down by Thief. When he was reactivated aboard an orbiting ship, he went through the usual Runner grounding exercise with an AI. A photocopy of the picture he'd recovered from the shell was procured. Void assumed that the child was himself.[2]
